In celebration of their 130th Anniversary, the employees of the First National Bank & Trust gathered together a collection approximately 150 sought after favorite recipes from past and present employees and created an Anniversary Cookbook which were sold at each of their seven locations (Main office, Kingsford, North, South, Econo Foods, Iron River or Menominee) for $10 each.  The employees raised over $4,500 which will be distributed to food pantries within each community their employees support.

One of the benefactors of this fund raising project is the Light at the Inn, Dickinson County’s faith-based rotating emergency homeless shelter.  Ten local churches currently participate with a nightly pick up at the First Lutheran Church (behind KFC).  Guests over the age of 18 who pass a screening test are provided a safe place to sleep between the hours of 6 pm and 7 am including a warm meal during the winter months.  Last year was the first operating season and the shelter was open for 18 weeks.  It was occupied all but 15 nights.  Overnight shelter and meals were provided to 16 individual guests, three of which were assisted in finding permanent housing.

There are many ways to volunteer at Light at the Inn from dropping off brown bag lunch items to staying for an overnight shift.  Monetary donations are also welcome and will be used to offset the cost of the meals.  For more information, including the 2017-2018 shelter schedule, the shelter may be contacted at 906 282-5860, via email at lightattheinn@gmail.com and online at www.lightattheinn.com.
