First National Bank & Trust is proud to support the UP Honor Flight Cycling Team ‘s Ride of Honor, taking place Aug. 10-11, to honor Upper Peninsula military veterans and raise funds to support the UP Honor Flight organization.
Eight cyclists will be riding 200 miles starting at the Veterans War Memorial at the top of Pine Mountain and finishing on the shore of Lake Michigan at the American Legion Park in St. Ignace. The team’s goal is to raise $100,000 to provide one honor flight. Currently, there is a wait list of over 400 deserving veterans, with five flights scheduled in the next 14 months, all supported by fundraising efforts.
Members of the cycling team met with First National Bank & Trust Veterans Outreach Committee to receive a $1,000 donation to the Ride of Honor. The Veterans Outreach Committee is comprised of armed service veteran employees and additional employee volunteer members. The Committee’s mission is to oversee and expand the Bank’s efforts in supporting and creating awareness for local veterans organizations and programs.
“We are pleased to make a donation to a program that shows appreciation for our veterans in such a unique and meaningful way,” said First National Bank & Trust Veterans Outreach Committee Chair Matt Donovan. “We thank the UP Honor Flight Cycling Team for their efforts in helping to bring more Veterans to Washington, D.C. for their day of honor, and encourage everyone to support them on their 200 mile trek.”
