The Iron Mountain Downtown Development Authority (DDA) is excited to announce the installation of a vibrant new art display as part of our ongoing “Art on the Lights” project. This summer, visitors from near and far and local residents of Iron Mountain will be delighted to see 100 colorful hot air balloon wind spinners in the sky. These wind spinners measure 5 feet long. Iron Mountain Department of Public Works has plans to install this new display between June 12 – June 15.
This year’s whimsical installation is made possible through the generous support and collaboration of our partners: First National Bank & Trust, Sandstone Terrace, and the Dickinson Area Community Foundation. The Iron Mountain DDA was a proud recipient of the Pasahow Community Impact Grant from the Community Foundation. Their commitment to enhancing our downtown experience has been instrumental in bringing this project to life. “We are thrilled to introduce these stunning hot air balloons,” said Kenzie Williamsen, Event Coordinator for the Iron Mountain DDA. This is the second year Iron Mountain has installed art, displayed on bistro lights in the Alleyway between First National’s Downtown location at 233 S. Stephenson and Sandstone Terrace (220 Iron Mountain Street.) The first art installation, coordinated by previous Program Director, Mindy Meyers, was an Umbrella project. “Public art plays a crucial role in creating a vibrant and inviting downtown by engaging the community in public spaces.” mentions Mindy Meyers, now Executive Director of the Dickinson Area Economic and Development Alliance.
“First National is delighted to co-host this art installation on the bistro lights connected to our Downtown location,” said Russ Kassin, President & CEO. “We are happy to contribute as a sponsor to bring this and future public art installations to the area. Last year we received countless comments on the umbrella art and are looking forward to all of the visitors who will be enjoying this new art display.”
“The Sandstone Terrace is extremely excited to be a part of this co-sponsored Art Installation along with First National Bank. It is a wonderful way to encourage all people in our community to visit and be a part of our downtown in a different way. We hope to continue this concept for years to come and inspire people with art, color, and design. For us on the Terrace, it makes for excellent views and the picture opportunities are amazing! Thanks to the DDA and the FNB for making downtown more festive!” Brandy Wentz, manager of The Sandstone Terrace.
This installation is part of the DDA’s broader initiative to promote economic growth, attract visitors, and foster community pride through unique and engaging public art displays. By partnering with local businesses and organizations. We aim to create an ever-evolving downtown landscape that showcases the beauty and creativity of our community.
