As part of their Spread Goodness Day activities, First National Bank & Trust employees wanted to do something special for the nurses who volunteer at the U.P. Regional Mobile Blood drives in Iron Mountain. Noting that the Blood Center volunteer nurses needed new thermometers, the FNB&T team went to work by coordinating an employee pot luck lunch and collecting donations to purchase four new digital thermometers from The Drug Store (TDS).

The U.P. Regional Blood Center’s goal is to collect 250 pints of whole blood in a week as well as seven platelet donations daily.  Platelet donations are taken by appointment in Marquette and Escanaba. The blood/platelets collected locally serve 13 Upper Peninsula hospitals.

There are four other sites in the U.P. available to blood donors only by appointment: Hancock, Sault Ste. Marie and in Iron Mountain at 1711 S. Stephenson Ave. To make an appointment in Iron Mountain, call 906-774-1012.

In addition, the center operates a bloodmobile which goes to designated sites around the Upper Peninsula to bring its services right to potential donors. To make an appointment for the next mobile blood drive scheduled for March 26th at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Iron Mountain, call Sue LeDuc at 774-7261.
